Data Privacy Policy (Website) at the Institute of Business Informatics - Data & Knowledge Engineering
The Institute of Business Informatics - Data & Knowledge Engineering (hereinafter referred to as the "Institute") informs you herewith about processing your personal information (more precisely: personal information relating to you) in the context of Art. 4 no. 1 in the General Data Protection Regulation (hereinafter referred to as "GDPR"), which is protected by applicable data protection law. As defined in Art. 4 No. 2 of GDPR, processing in particular means collecting, recording, and storing personal information by using – or not using - an automated (technical) procedure.

Personal data is stored and/or processed for the duration of the legal retention period. In addition, storage duration is determined according to criteria established for the storage period, such as topicality and relevance in relation to the above-mentioned purpose.
Team Website
The directory feature on the website provides institute employee information in regard to official contact information (academic title, first and last name, e-mail address, telephone number, office location, as well as institute position) for contact purposes to not only simplify the communication flow internally and externally at the university but also to provide information about areas of responsibility at the institute.
The team website provides the contact details (name, room, phone extension, e-mail address) for each individual institute employee, as well as their position and, if applicable, the scope of employment and a photo, as well as any other personal information needed to make it easier for university employees and external individuals to find the right contact person to address their concerns.
Former institute employees are listed and made available by, in particular, stating the individual's name, position, and period of employment. In addition, supervised academic/scientific theses written under supervision of the institute (Master's/Diploma degree theses as well as dissertations) are listed and made available; these include the individual's academic title, first and last name, area of study, year of study, and the students' thesis title to be processed with the intention of presenting the institute/institute, for public relations purposes, reporting, and/or documentation.
The legal basis to publish university employees' official contact information and provide lists of former university employees is the institute's legitimate interest in accordance with Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR.
The legal basis to publish institutes employees' photos on the team website as well as publish lists of academic/scientific theses supervised at the institute website is consent in accordance with Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a GDPR. You may revoke any consent granted at a prior date at any time by sending notification to the Johannes Kepler University Linz, Institute of Business Informatics - Data & Knowledge Engineering, Altenberger Strasse 69, A-4040 Linz or by sending an e-mail to: dke.win(at)jku.at. The legalities of data processing operations carried out up to the point consent is revoked remains unaffected after revoking consent.
Your personal information will be retained and/or processed in accordance with the criteria specified as the storage period, such as timeliness and relevance with regard to the above-mentioned purposes, particularly the intended external image and documentation, or the institute's communications style, or until you revoke your consent or object.
E-Mail Contact and Communication
In the event that you contact the institute via the e-mail addresses provided on the website, the personal data transmitted with your e-mail will be processed.
Your information will not be passed on to third parties. The information will be used exclusively to process your inquiry or request.
In accordance with Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR, the JKU's legitimate interest serves as the legal basis to process the personal data transmitted when contacting the institute by e-mail; when contacting us in the context of an upright business relationship or initiating a business relationship, the institute relies on fulfilling the contract or implementing pre-contractual measures (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. b GDPR).
The personal data processed during the course of e-mail communication will be deleted after final clarification of facts. Mandatory legal provisions - in particular retention periods - remain unaffected.
Cookies
The website dke.jku.at uses cookies. Cookies are text files stored on your end device and remain there partly even after you have finished using the website. In principle, cookies are used to offer users additional features on a website (storing selected language, storing selected filters). The purpose of using technical cookies is to simplify the use of websites. Some of the website features cannot be offered without their use. The institute does not use cookies for user behavior analysis.
The legal basis to process personal data using unnecessary technical cookies is the institute's legitimate interest (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f).
Using the cookie settings, you can revoke or adjust previously given consent to the above-mentioned cookies at any time. The legalities of data processing operations carried out up to the point consent is revoked remains unaffected after revoking consent.
Social Media
The website features recommendation buttons to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Xing and YouTube embedded directly in the form of HTML links. When viewing the page, no data will be transferred to external platforms.
The institute has no influence on the content and data protection standards of linked websites. The institute therefore accepts no liability for external links.
